Activities

Do you know the mystery surrounding our ancestor Ellin Cowgill?   Come to the Cowgill Cousins Reunion this summer to find out what the latest research shows about this ancestor. Are you missing a few branches on your family tree? Several Cowrgill experts will be on hand to help you fill in the missing leaves. Not that much into genealogy? That's ok too—there is a festival going on in town that weekend withh magicians, strolling musicians, art shows, jazz concerts, and free trolley rides. With the reunion headquarters located only blocks from Charleston Town Center Mall and its 130 stores, 6 restaurants, and 12 food court vendors, tours of the WV State Capitol Building and Governor's Mansion already scheduled, the 2009 Cowgill Cousins Reunion will be the one not to miss. Of course the hospitality room will be open and a couple of workshops are scheduled for those interested:  1) Our English Roots, 2) an Overview of the US Cowgill lines, and 3) Writing Your Own Story. Let us know of your interest in adding more workshops and topics.

The True Husband of Ellin Cowgill

... Has a solution been found to this centuries old question? Come to the Cowgill Cousins Reunion in West Virginia and find out!!

Through the dedicated research of President Perry Cowgill, working both in England and Salt Lake City, the answer may be revealed at last. By combing through the Yorkshire Parish records and the Bishop's Transcripts for the middle 1600s a new prospect has come to light. Come to West Virginia and hear details.

Professor George Raymond Cowgill
(1893-1973)
Has been honored by the
creation of an $8 million teaching professorship at the prestigious Yale University Medical Center, New Haven, CT. The honor is being gifted by Robert McNeil, Jr. who directed the development of Tylenol. Said Mr. McNeil, "as an undergraduate, one of my outstanding teachers was Professor Cowgill at Yale School of Medicine, and I wanted to make certain that he would be remembered for the great scientist, mentor and teacher that he was". (Medicine@Yale, Vol 5 Issue 1)

We mourn the loss

... of James Cowgill, of 11357 Earlywood Drive, Dallas, TX who died 12 January 2009. Jim was an early and active member of the Cowgill Cousins. He worked on the latest set of by-laws for the group together with Jack Cowgill. These by-laws were presented at the 1999 reunion in Kearney, NE. Jim, together with his wife Avenell, were enthusiastic participants in the first Cowgill trip to Yorkshire in September of 1993. After trekking in to the old 1400s barn at Cow Gill Cote Jim suddenly appeared waving from the upper story window. Our leader, Dr. George Redmonds, nearly had heart failure at the thought of the condition of those old wooden steps to the loft.
